Tin to hold all my markers and pens.

Sometimes I just love to sit in front of the TV with my art journal and doodle. I have been looking for something to hold all my markers and pens I need when I do. I tried all kinds of holders and discovered that this little tin is perfect for the job but I didn't like the coldness of the tin against my hands. I decided to dress it up with some crochet, felt and buttons and added a little bling too. You could say 'Oh my word but it's so kitsch!' Well... maybe it's kitsch, maybe it's funky but it's my own creation and I love it! Best of all it's nice and warm and very very handy indeed! :)

Magazine Collage!

And for something totally different. Magazine collages! It is such a creative and imaginative way to experiment values and shapes. I did these collages by using only magazines and build the faces up with small pieces of torn pages. I know they are not masterpieces by far but it is a way to experiment and create playfully. Give it a try!

Choices

"Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful." ~ Mark Victor Hansen~

Art Journal Page on Black Paper

I bought a journal with black pages months ago and never did anything with it. I decided it was time to do some experimenting on the pages and this was the outcome. These pages are a reminder to me that just like a fish in the ocean keeps  moving on so must I. I don't know where my journey will end and how but I  know I can not sit and wait for things to happen.

Take care!

Take Me Away

I glued two small boxed canvases together, painted the picture with acrylic paint and embellished it with mirrors, mosaic inserts and some glass pebbles. The feet are wine corks.

Endearments

I have two passions, art and crochet. Up to now I have only shared my art on this blog but never have I focused on my crochet. I have always loved any mixed media and always try to incorporate that into my work. I found a way to combine the two of them into one and started a brand new blog 'Endearments' where I will be posting all the pieces I make. I love fashion accessories and this is what it's all about. To give you a peak I am posting a pendant and wristband. Please go over and visit. Comments would be so appreciated.

Rosary

Last night I decided to make this rosary for my room. It's an ordinary wooden blank that you buy at any craft shop. I first painted it with some Lily White craft arcrylic paint and then used serviettes and with podge medium I started applying thin layers of the serviette all over the cross. I left it to dry overnight and early this morning first polished it up with some guilders paste and then glued the rose and the glass stones into place. I carefully made little holes where I wanted to hang the bead decoration (which I strung a while ago)and fixed the eyelets into place.

Sunday, 22 February 2009

I had this vision of a flying angel I wanted to paint this morning when I woke up and I wanted to do it in a very naive childlike style but after the second attempt I gave up and decided to focus on something totally different. I remembered this wooden cross that has been laying in my cupboard for months now screaming for some paint and thought I would give it a go. This is the end product. I first covered it with gesso and gause which I cut into small pieces. I then did some coloring with oil pastels all over the cross. I dipped a brush into artists spirits and washed the cross and the way the colors of the pastels then mixed into all the grooves and texture the gesso and gause made gives it an almost antique iron-like look. I glued some embellishments on and wallah ! I am sure I will find a spot to hang it :)

Imagination

My collage experiment on canvas. This collage was so much fun to make. I used old cd's, mosaic tiles, small mirrors, buttons, rope and serviettes which I glued onto the canvas by using a decoupage technique.
