Upcycling: What to do with your old vinyl gramophone records.

I have a few of these old outdated vinyl gramophone records lying around and just taking up space. I decided to put them to good use. I used my craft acrylic on fabric and used modge podge to paste it onto the record. I also added odd bits of lace and hessian and now  I have a new wall hanging and it didn't cost me much! Great project to do!

Eternal Traveller

From my Soul Journal

Remember always that you are just a visitor here, a traveller passing through. Your stay is but short and the moment of your departure unknown.

None can live without toil and a craft that provides your needs is a blessing indeed. But if you toil without rest, fatigue and weariness will overtake you, and you will be denied the joy that comes from labour's end.

Speak quietly and kindly and be not forward with either opinions or advice. If you talk much, this will make you deaf to what others say, and you should know that there are few so wise that they cannot learn from others. Be near when help is needed, but far when praise and thanks are being offered.

Take small account of might, wealth and fame, for they soon pass and are forgotten. Instead nurture love within you and strive to be a friend to all. Truly, compassion is a balm for many wounds.

Treasure silence when you find it, and while being mindful of your duties, set time aside, to be alone with yourself. Cast off pretence and self-deception and see yourself as you really are.  (From the book: Winter Blessings by Patricia Scanlan)

Take care

More pages from my Soul Journal

I only saw my spelling mistake now 'wisper' but it's done and I am not going to try and fix it. Sometimes these little errors slip in without one noticing them and it's okay, it's life and I am giving myself permission to make mistakes too! :)
Take care!

Take Me Away

I glued two small boxed canvases together, painted the picture with acrylic paint and embellished it with mirrors, mosaic inserts and some glass pebbles. The feet are wine corks.

Monochrome Painting

I finished this acrylic painting a few weeks ago and never had the time to take a picture and post, but rather late than never. Almost forgot about it because she is already hanging on my bedroom wall.I used only black and white acrylic paint. Want to do more of this kind of monochromatic paintings. I love colors but there is something about a black and white painting that speaks to me in a different way.

My latest project

Here is just a tiny peep at my latest project. I covered a canvas with a layer of wall putty and started painting on top of that with acrylics and love the effect it creates. I have been experimenting with wall putty for some time now and first started with just mixed media work but this is the first time I am doing a portrait so we will see what the finished piece will look like once it's done.

Sasha

Today I want to revisit one of my earlier paintings and thought to do a post about those days. I still remember how I struggled with this particular painting of Sasha. Since I started my journey in art I have been exploring so many different styles but it has been such a wonderful learning experience and when you are self-taught and there isn't anyone around to give you tips or guidance the road to success can sometimes be very hard. When I started I went through the phase of wanting to do animals and I painted a number of paintings. I sold all the ones that were framed but the one painting I could never sell is this one of Sasha.

She was a lot of work and lot of detail ... can't remember exactly but I remember I started painting her and couldn't get the head in proportion so just tucked her away and then a few months later I took her again and all of a sudden she was ready to be finished. I love this painting and I had offers from family members who want to buy her but there is something about her that is too personal to me. I will never sell her. That was the last painting of an animal I did and after her I didn't touch paints for years until two years ago when I decided to start art journaling and now I am on a new road of discovery. What a wonderful journey I have been on so far and I am still learning something new every day.

Friend

I did this little acrylic painting quickly this morning. It is a Christmas present for a friend of mine. Hope she likes it.

Believe

And in between all the sketching and watercolor painting I managed to do this mixed media on canvas. She is going straight to my wall.

Pear 2

Yesterday I posted the page in my art journal with the study of a pear and decided to do a little painting on canvas today of the same subject. I love the way the reds, yellows and greens make the picture sing and bring it to life. I will be teaching acrylic workshops in March next year and this is the perfect subject to use. There will be five workshops running every day for two days and each of the classes will last only  eighty minutes.

And one more acrylic painting tonight from my art journal.

Practicing Landscape Painting

Some acrylic practice pieces from my art journal that I did yesterday and today. I have done all of these with limited colors and the reason I am limiting myself to only a few colors is to force myself to mix colors and experiment. Must say I am not extremely happy about the outcome but it's part of learning and exploring my art.
